Fire Calls
|
Station 270 was dispatched... Station 270 was alerted to a possible hay bale fire. Captian 270 was contacted by the communication center that the home owner on Hollow Road needed help with steaming hay bales under a 40' by 120' equipment shed. Captain 270 advised county to activate Station 270 pagers for a special assignment. Engines 271,272, and Tanker 274 responded to the scene. Engine 272 laid 500 feet of 5" LDH and established a water supply at a pond directly across from the scene. Tanker 274 pulled a crosslay that was manned while the hay bales were removed by the home owner and place in a field away from any exposures. Approximately 30 to 40 large round bales were removed. External bale temps were measured using a heat gun while internal temps were measured using a stemmed thermometer. Very high temps were recorded and a possible large fire was averted. Crews remained on scene for 2 hours.
14 Station 270 members responded.
